The Absa Cape Epic has announced that it will tighten its rules regarding anti-doping by introducing a lifetime ban for future offenders.

The 2013 Absa Cape Epic route was launched over two days of events and celebrations in Cape Town and Johannesburg. 

The 10th Absa Cape Epic Route will take riders through unexplored territory, living up to its 'untamed' reputation.

The 2012 race, characterised by extreme weather, started with a cracker of a prologue hosted by Meerendal wine estate.

A large, appreciative crowd turned out to cheer the riders through the prologue over the drop-offs and root tangles of the Tokai Forest.

Without the need to reach a new town every day, the Absa Cape Epic route could explore completely new territory in 2010. 

The format of the Absa Cape Epic changed in 2009, and without the need for transition sections, the riding would become more intensely technical.

In 2008, the route for the Absa Cape Epic stretched over a whopping 966 kilometres – the longest ever.
