Breakfast saw the trial riders wearing an extra layer of clothing this morning. Word had spread of the long downhill pass right after the start. Remembering the frozen digits yesterday, they were leaving nothing to chance.

Clear skies! That’s what trial riders’ Blackberrys said this morning. So all was on schedule and back to the 6am breakfast / 7am start routine. But clear skies don’t always mean warm air.

If anyone was expecting to hear graphic details of sore, punished backsides after yesterday’s 12km stretch of railway track, they were disappointed.

This morning kicked off with the traditional handing out of name boards. Each rider gets a nickname, written in bold letters and it is usually a jibe at some misdemeanour on previous trial rides.
